Classical Guitar Society brings in Spanish performer
![]() POST-DISPATCH CLASSICAL MUSIC CRITIC
The Classical Guitar Society has long been one of the small but brilliant jewels in local music. For years, it was jointly run by Bill and Kathy Ash, but since Kathy's unexpected death in January, the model's had to change. Saturday's concert by Spanish guitarist Ignacio Rodes is the second in the new season. Bill, how have you restructured? Kathy did a lot of things. Board members have stepped up to take over a many of these responsibilities: ticket-selling, accounting, editing the newsletter, outreach into the community. How are you doing the outreach? We've established the Kathleen Jane Evans Ash Memorial Fund. It has two purposes: to ensure our continued stability, and to help promote music education. We're following Kathy's spirit. Tell us about Ignacio Rodes. He's a very musical Spanish performer. He's put together a program to celebrate the musical culture in Spain in 1909, when the great composer Francisco Tárrega died. There was a whole generation of guitar composers in Spain at that time.
